“Filling in the Gaps”

New Development in Historic Downtowns

Featuring: Rick Gonzalez, AIA - President, REG Architects

New development is often essential for the economic health and vitality of historic downtowns. Good design is critical in ensuring that the mix of old and new buildings create an environment that visitors and residents can enjoy. Many factors must be weighed when considering new development projects in downtown. Height, scale, massing, materials, parking and use are just some of the items that will influence new design. How are these items balanced? What steps can be taken to guarantee a successful project?

Rick Gonzalez, President of REG Architects will share examples of sensitive infill development, detailing strategies to ensure good design. The lecture will showcase projects that have won both redevelopment and historic preservation awards.

The lecture is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served.
